Celebrating Yorkshire day and raising funds for Hearing Dogs for Deaf People charity, on Saturday 1st August, Ilkley’s Lessian Motors hosted the town’s first ever Rally and Run.

On the day, participants drove their vintage, classic, and performance cars through almost 100 miles of the Yorkshire Dales’ most remote and challenging roads – raising over £800 for charity.

Starting at 11am, participants gathered at Ilkley Rugby club to sign-on and receive their route instructions. Flagged away by Harry and George Simpson, they navigated their way to Arncliffe village, where a much needed refuel for the drivers and passengers saw traditional Yorkshire day delights such as pie and peas consumed at the historic Falcon Inn pub, and outside on the delightful village green.

After lunch, the route took the cars to Malham, Litton, Kettlewell and Gammersgill, before looping back to Ilkley. The day ended with successful completion of the run by all 60 cars back at the Ilkley Rugby Club, where drivers and passengers enjoyed a BBQ and live music into the evening from local band, Bullfrog Jones.

Commenting on the success of the first ever Ilkley Rally and Run, Gerard Simpson, Director of Ilkley’s Lessian Motors and organiser of the run said: “Hearing Dogs for Deaf People is a national charity and centre of excellence in training hearing dogs to alert deaf people to everyday household sounds and danger signals. It’s a very worthy cause, so we are delighted to have already raised such an amount. Donations are still coming in from the day, so we hope to increase the initial sum raised!

“I would like to thank everyone who helped make the run a great success, including all the people who helped organise the event, and the participants who gave up their time and money for such a worthy cause. We are already planning next year’s event and looking forward to an even better Ilkley Rally and Run in August 2016.”

On Saturday 1st August, Lessian Motors is inviting customers to enjoy an afternoon drive around North Yorkshire, to celebrate Yorkshire day and raise funds for the Hearing Dogs for Deaf People charity.

Hearing Dogs for Deaf People is a national charity and centre of excellence in training hearing dogs to alert deaf people to everyday household sounds and danger signals. Lessian customers can support this worthy cause by entering their vintage, classic, or performance car for the run, and enjoy a great day out into the bargain!

Commencing at 11:00am from Ilkley Rugby Club, the picturesque route will take in the best of the stunning Yorkshire Dales – parts of which featured in the route of the 2014 Tour de France Grand Depart.

On completion of the run, participating cars will return to Ilkley Rugby Club to enjoy a BBQ and live music – which will continue into the evening.

Drivers who prefer not to participate in the run can instead park their vehicles on The Grove, Ilkley, and soak-up the carnival atmosphere while the run takes place.

To find out more about the event and how you can support it, Lessian Motors can be contacted on Ilkley 01943 608355 or entrants can download an Entry Form at www.ilkleyrallyandrun.co.uk

Prestigious restoration success

Ilkley’s vehicle servicing, MOT and specialist car restoration garage, Lessian Motors, is celebrating after a classic Porsche 911 they played a role in restoring was entered for sale at the prestigious Bonhams auction house, which took place last week at the Goodwood Festival of Speed.

The rare 1969 Porsche 911T was purchased by David Graves Specialist Cars of Ilkley in 2011, but required a full strip down and rebuild. With every part of the classic supercar being renovated or replaced during its restoration, David Graves commented: “We chose Lessian Motors to paint the newly restored car bodywork because of their expertise and reputation in classic car restoration. When we acquired the car it was white – not the original colour, so we decided to return the vehicle to its original ‘Blood Orange’ factory colour.”

The car was spray painted to exacting standards by Lessian Motors, using their specialist ‘low bake’ paint oven and using period-correct ’68 Line’ Glasurit paint formulations, again, supplied by Lessian Motors. After painting, Lessian engineers also refitted the car’s major mechanical parts such as suspension, engine and gearbox, before returning it to David Graves Specialist Cars to complete the restoration task.

So exacting were the standards of the restoration that the vehicle was awarded the prestigious ‘Certificate of Authenticity’ by Porsche prior to its sale – confirming that it was restored to the factory’s own high standards, and adding further to the car’s value.

After the car’s sale at Bonhams auction, David enthused, “I am over the moon at the quality and attention to detail the Lessian Motors team delivered on this project. I can’t praise the standard of their craftsmanship high enough. The garage is a gem of an asset for anyone living in or around Ilkey who need to find a quality vehicle servicing or car bodywork and painting provider.”

When we’re not busy looking after customer vehicles with our full range of competitively priced, local servicing and repair work, regular Lessian Motors eNews readers will know that we also prepare and run an Ford Escort MkII RS2000 rally car.

This weekend, the Lessian Motors Rally Team contested the Tour of Hamsterley rally in County Durham. The rally’s 7 stages, 6 inside the Hamsterley Forest complex and one other in the grounds of Raby Castle estate presented a real challenge.

Finishing the daylong event, along with our rally team PR & marketing partner, GPM, we managed to finish 2nd in class and 21st overall – a really great result for the Lessian Team team.

We look forward to seeing you soon, for all your vehicle servicing requirements.

Stop quicker with winter tyres!

To prepare your car for winter driving conditions, all drivers should consider using winter tyres. And that’s particularly so for motorists in our region, where the increased chance of heavy snow and ice can make driving conditions treacherous.

Unlike with normal tyres, winter tyres provide more effective grip on the road during cold and icy conditions – reducing the chance of an accident.

The rubber compound of winter tyres is different to normal tyres, being specifically formulated to work in temperatures below 7 degrees centigrade. With a normal tyre, if the temperature drops below 7 degrees the tyre loses its flexibility.

In the cold, ice, and snow, winter tyres provide a level of grip that no normal tyre can match. A vehicle fitted with winter tyres will come to standstill on a snow-covered road (from a speed of 30mph) two full car lengths sooner than a car fitted with with normal tyres!

To get ready for winter, ask us about winter tyre options for your vehicle today.
